“On August 10th, an Israeli strike targeted Al-Tab’een School in Gaza City, which was sheltering around 6,000 displaced Palestinians. The attack killed more than 100 people, including children. This horrific incident targeted a designated emergency shelter—where civilians seek refuge after following evacuation orders.
Just a few days prior, HI teams and community-based agents were at Al-Tab’een School, teaching people how to protect themselves from explosive remnants and bombings. However, the tragedy on August 10th serves as yet another stark reminder that nowhere in Gaza is safe.
The ongoing violence and the constant threat to civilian lives highlight the urgent need for a long-lasting ceasefire. The protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure must be the top priority. Respecting and upholding these fundamental human rights is the only way to ensure that the people of Gaza receive the safety and essential support they desperately need.”
